Edward Young - One of Our Submarines: 1000th Orange Penguin
When Penguin began publishing their paperbacks in 1935 they numbered each title. For many years these numbers appeared on the spines of the books allowing the completist collector to shelve their books in order and ensure they had each and every one. In 1952 they finally reached number 1000 and to celebrate they produced this special edition of One of Our Submarines, an autobiographical account of Edward Young's War experiences in the RNVR. Before World War II Edward Young was the production manager of Penguin Books. He designed the very first cover and drew the famous little Penguin. What a perfect choice to commemorate their 1000th title.
